    Get PDF
A wireless method has been designed to process a financial payment efficiently. A user can just swipe his/her credit/debit card over the counter and all the processing needed shall be done seamlessly. A smartphone is a popular device to carry around. It is a hassle to carry and keep track on so many debit/credit cards in a wallet. It is more convenient to carry a debit/credit card electronically on a smartphone. This paper will embark on an electronic debit/credit card on a smartphone and migrate to IoT money. A novel session payment system using IoT money shall be introduced to minimise debit/credit card risk. The scope of this paper is confined into the security model for an easy payment system based on Internet of Things (IoT). Since each IoT money is unique to each payment, this session payment system will ease the burden on protecting the database of the payment system

Either natural or man-made a disaster is defined as unexpected destructive event that causes damages and malfunction of existing systems and services all around the disaster area, these destructive effects are unfortunately beyond the capability of local authorities to recover and respond immediately, the disaster recovery plans are immediately initiated so that rescue and aid operations can help those who are trapped in disaster area to survive, those efforts need to be controlled and coordinated with reliable communication systems that are more likely partially or fully disabled due to the disaster, the capabilities of cognitive radio technology enables it to play a significant role in providing efficient communication services for the rescue teams and headquarters as well as trapped victims, in this paper, we survey the cognitive radio architectures that can replace the Software Defined Radio SDR in order to reduce the network expenses in terms of network size and network computational complexit

Hybrid LTE-Vanets Based Optimal Radio Access Selection

    Get PDF
The access technology selection, that a user can associate with any radio access technology (RAT) with the availability of multiple RATs available, has been intensively investigated by vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET).In particular it carries and distributes information,inter-communicates and is capable of communicating with other stationary units deployed along roadways. The current study proposed hybrid optimal radio access selection algorithm (ORAS) for LTE/VANETs network. The periodically broadcasted network information supports mobile users to make their selection decisions;mobiles consider their own individual preferences, cost and partial QoS information signaled by the network while making their decision. The switches algorithm between VANET and LTE based on the load value of network and quality of service requirements were proposed. The simulation results have shown that the proposed algorithm has better performance compared with LTE and VANETs separately in terms of packet delivery ratio, latency and application-level throughput

Smart Fall Detection by Enhanced SVM with Fuzzy Logic Membership Function

    Get PDF
Falling is a critical issue for disabled people, and it leads to potentially serious injuries and death. Smart fall detection is a technology that depends on sensors and auxiliary devices that seek to improve the quality of life and enhance the lifestyle of disabled people. So far, the most widely used fall prediction methods collect data from inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors. In addition, they use thresholds to identify falls based on artificial experiences or machine learning (ML) algorithms. Nonetheless, these approaches still require extensive classification and calibration. In this paper, we suggest a new technique to detect falls by combining Fuzzy Logic (FL) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The FL model is built by using a fuzzy membership function along with the input dataset to obtain the intermediate output. Because combining these two algorithms is not an easy task, we leverage SVM with a kernel comprised of a fuzzy membership function and thus build a new model known as FSVM. Besides, the hyperplane of the SVM is used as the separating plane to replace the traditional threshold method for detecting falling Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) on a comprehensive dataset containing simulated falling ADLs, non-falling ADLs, and scripted ADLs, including falling ADLs and unscripted ADLs performed by volunteers with our designed device. The results show that no false-positive rate had been triggered, and 100% specificity was achieved for ADL. An overall accuracy of about 99.87% in detecting the fall function was obtained. Furthermore, the overall sensitivity of 100% with no false negative rate obtained was achieved by implementing the proposed method. The attained results validate that our introduced method can effectively learn from features extracted from a multiphase fall model.&nbsp

Failure to address the risk poses by future technological development could cause devastating damage to public trust in the technologies. Therefore, ascendant technologies such as artificial intelligence are the key components to provide solutions for new cybersecurity threats and strengthen the capabilities of the future technological developments. In effect, ability of the technologies to prevent and withstand a cyber-attack could become the new deterrence. This paper will provide gaps to guide the government, industry, and the research community in pursuing Internet of Things (IoT) technological development that may be in need of improvement. The contribution of this paper is as follows: First, a roadmap that outline security requirements and concerns of future technology and the significant of IoT technology in addressing the concerns. Second, an assessment that illustrates the expected and unexpected impact of future technology adoption and its significant geopolitical implication on potential impacted areas such as regulatory, legal, political, military, and intelligence

The Development Of An Automated Irrigation System Using An Open Source Microcontroller

    Get PDF
This paper proposes an automated irrigation using Arduino microcontroller system which is cost effective and can be used in a farm or in an average home garden. The proposed system is developed to be automatically watering the plants when the soil moisture sensor detected water insufficiency in the soil by using the Arduino as the center core. The automated irrigation system is a fully functional prototype which consists of a soil moisture sensor; an LCD display to show the moisture percentage and pump status; a relay module which is used to control the on and off switch of the water pump; and a water pump. When the soil moisture sensor senses the dry soil, it will show the moisture percentage on the LCD display, and the relay module will switch on the water pump automatically to start the watering process or vice versa. Hardware testing is conducted to ensure the proposed system is fully functional

Location-Based Access Control In Neighborhood Geosocial Network: A Case Of Emergency Assistance

    Get PDF
To enforce safer virtual neighborhood environment, access control is essential to specify privileges or access rights to resources in neighborhood geosocial network applications. In the case of emergency circumstances, several concerns in implementing access control have been identified: (1) inefficient message sending to irrelevant recipients (2) location spoofing (3) gossip and rumors due to disclosing information to wrong audience. To address such potential risks, access control specifically tailored for neighborhood geosocial network is required. The objective of this paper is two-fold: First, to propose an access control using density-based and position-based location conditions for neighborhood geosocial network. Second, to design mySOS, a proof-of-concept prototype that incorporate the proposed access control to improve access control for emergency assistance in neighborhood geosocial network. To achieve the objectives, a combination of proposed self-organized segmentation algorithms (density-based) and resident engagement incentives (position-based) are implemented. This study contributes to a new way for access control that will determine user profile in accessing emergency assistance features in a neighborhood geosocial network application

Heart rate analysis provides vital information of the present condition of the human body and become one of the important indicators of health. Manual monitoring method no longer efficient since requires physical access from the medical staff. Thus, a system that provides a real-time monitoring and alert is needed. In this paper, we develop a heart rate alert system that is usable for medical officer and patients. The system measures the variation of the tissue blood flow rate by means of a photo transmitter and detector through fingertip known as photoplethysmography (PPG). The detected signal is passed through active low pass filter and then amplified by a two stages high gain amplifier. The amplified signal is feed into the microcontroller to process the heart rate. Then, the heart rate reading is transferred to a running web server for dashboard views for monitoring. For alerting medical officer, the system able to trigger and send a notification message through Telegram platform in the occurrences of abnormal heart rate reading. Mean of reading differences and response time testing were carried out for the performance testing of the system. Overall, the system is capable in providing an alternative method for the medical staff to monitor and get alert about the heart rate of the patients. This system can be deployed in hospitals or used by heart disease patients to monitor their heart rate condition from time to time
